Alaska Receives $272M Per Year.

The Rural Health Transformation Program is a $50 billion, five-year federal program created by Congress in 2025 to improve rural health care across all fifty states. Alaska is one of the top recipients nationwide, reflecting its large rural population, geographic challenges, and long-standing health care access needs.

How Opus Can Help You Access RHTP Funding

Eligible behavioral health providers can work with Opus to leverage our proprietary platform to submit their Letter of Intent and seek RHTP funding — covering migration to Opus, implementation, training, and the ongoing cost of their EMR platform.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who qualifies for RHTP funding?+

Behavioral health and substance use treatment organizations, Tribes and Tribal Health Organizations, hospitals, clinics, and technology partners serving Alaskans. Organizations anywhere in Alaska may apply — including regional hubs — if the project improves health outcomes.

Can funding cover our existing EMR subscription?+

RHTP funds support project start-up and capacity-building activities, not ongoing operating expenses. However, the initial migration, implementation, and platform costs associated with adopting a new system are eligible uses. Providers must include a sustainability plan beyond the 5-year program window.

What if we are already in a contract with another vendor?+

RHTP funding cannot duplicate or replace existing funding sources. However, if your current system does not meet the program's technology and interoperability goals, transitioning to a qualifying platform like Opus may be eligible for funding. Ask us to review your specific situation.

How much funding can our organization receive?+

Alaska receives $272M per year total across all awarded projects. Individual award amounts depend on your project scope, initiative alignment, and scoring by the RHTP Advisory Council. DOH will publish the full scoring rubric when the application opens.
